A MAN is burying a jumbo jet.
Yep, you read that right.
British artist Roger Hiorns, 39, plans to bury a decommissioned Boeing 737 in 2016. Hiorns says his ambitious burial project is designed to “amplify the contemporary anxiety which the object holds over us”.
The Turner Prize-nominated artist’s endeavor is made possible through a nearly $500,000 grant from the Arts Council of England.
The 737 burial, which will be realized near his hometown of Birmingham, has been in the works for four years. When the burial is complete, visitors will be able to wander through the fuselage and sit in the 737′s seats.
“I’m presenting a space that’s deeply familiar but filled with anxiety and increasing the level of anxiety by placing the compressed atmosphere of an aluminium shell underground,” said Hiorns.

This will not be the first time Hiorns turned an old Boeing aircraft into a work of art. For his Turner Prize bid in 2009, he loaded the engines of a Boeing EC-135c with anti-depressants to symbolize the link between personal well-being and global security.
