They are making the donation through TheDream.US, which was founded by former Washington Post publisher and Facebook board member Donald Graham.
"America was founded as a nation of immigrants. We ought to welcome smart and hardworking young people from every nation, and to help everyone in our society achieve their full potential." the Facebook CEO and founder said in a post on his Facebook page. If we help more young immigrants climb the ladder to new opportunities, then our country will make greater progress."
Zuckerberg has embraced immigration reform as the "biggest civil rights issue of our time." He started a group, Fwd.us, which has spent millions lobbying for immigration reform in Washington, D.C.
While focused on increasing the flow of overseas technology workers, Fwd.us also held a Silicon Valley hackathon for "dreamers" in 2013. Dreamers are students whose parents brought them into the USA illegally when they were children.
Zuckerberg will fund 400 scholarships to bay Area students. This is the second contribution from the couple. A year ago the couple committed $2.5 million to the fund.
